Free breakfasts and lunches will be available to children ages 1 to 18 years old at Ramona Community Library through Thursday, Aug. 7.
The food is available for pick-up at the library from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays starting June 12. However, the library will be closed Thursday, June 19 in celebration of the Juneteenth federal holiday, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.
Feeding San Diego is providing the nonperishable food, said Ramona Library Branch Manager Beverlee Cabral. Items will include a combination of snacks and meals and may include juice boxes and packages of cereal, Cabral said.
“There will be a variety of food,” she said. “It includes breakfast and lunch for one day and breakfast and lunch for another day for seven days.”
No registration is required and recipients do not have to be residents of Ramona or attend Ramona Unified School District schools, Cabral said.
The once-per-week food distribution will follow the library’s summer programs for children, which are scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursdays.
The kickoff will be a Puppet Party on June 12 that features a variety show with puppets, comedy and music. The party encourages kids to be creative and use their imaginations,. Cabral said.
“Families can watch the programs and right after, pick up the meal boxes and take them home,” she said.
Future summer programs for kids will be as follows:
- Music with Ramona Music Center – June 26 and July 24
- Zany Zoe Magic Show – July 3
- Drawing with Kyle – July 10
- Fleet Science Center – July 17
- Summer LEGO Challenge – July 31
- Concert with Ralph’s World – Aug. 7
Programs for tweens and teens will also be available this summer at the Ramona Community Library, 1275 Main St. For more information, call the library at 760-788-5270.
