Three fourth-graders from Ramona Unified School District were recognized as winners in the North County Water Agencies’ 34th annual Water Awareness Poster Contest.
They were announced at the Ramona Municipal Water District’s May 13 meeting. First place was Aisley Enriquez, a Hanson Elementary School student in Danielle Vialpando’s class; second place was Kelly Grant, a Ramona Elementary School student in Susan Douglass’ class; and third place was Monica Nieves, a Hanson Elementary student in Danielle Vialpando’s class.

The girls’ posters will be included in the annual North County Water Agencies 2026 calendar. The first place poster will represent Ramona as a full page for one of the 12 months.
As a member of the North County Water Agencies, the Ramona Municipal Water District encourages using water wisely through public education and environmental awareness.
“Increasing the knowledge of school children is vital to our future,” states a water district news release. “Their appreciation of the role water plays in sustaining life is critical to creating good water conservation habits today.”

As the cost of water and energy continue to rise, it becomes increasingly important to make every drop of water count, water district officials say.
Students participating in this year’s Water Awareness Poster Contest used their imagination to illustrate the theme of how to “Love Water, Save Water.” Their colorful images show ways to love or save water at home or school and ways to love saving water so there’s enough for all living things.
“The students’ artwork depicts their awareness of water as our most precious natural resource,” Ramona Municipal Water District officials stated. “Although only the top three posters are showcased in the annual calendar, every participating fourth-grader comes away a winner by having a greater appreciation of water, which is a limited resource essential to life.”
