Rancho Bernardo’s annual Memorial Day commemoration was held Monday with the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society’s 18th annual Pancake Festival followed by a ceremony at the RB Veterans Memorial at Webb Park.
The Memorial Day ceremony was organized by the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial Association.

Retired Marine Corps Col. Rick Huenefeld, board president of the MCRD Museum Foundation, was the keynote speakers. He retired in 2011 after 40 years in the Marine Corps. For a decade after retirement he was the community liaison for MCRD San Diego as a civilian working for the Department of Defense until retiring again in 2021.

Other ceremony participants were Lisa Friedrichs as master of ceremonies; retired Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Paul K. Lebidine, president of the RB Veterans Memorial Association; of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Brig. Gen. J.P. Holland Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars; Scouts BSA Troop 685 , the RB High School Madrigals Choir and Air Force veteran Marty Judge, who presented a wreath during the ceremony.
