San Elijo Middle School students and staff were placed in a lockdown after the San Marcos campus received a report of a bomb threat Tuesday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said.
The call was received by deputies around 12:55 p.m. that a threat had been made against the campus on Schoolhouse Way near San Elijo Road, sheriff’s Lt. Elizabeth Montoya said.
The threat stemmed from a “concerning note found in a student restroom at lunch” on Tuesday, San Marcos Unified School District spokesperson Amy Ventetuolo said.
The district ed law enforcement and a campus sweep began, per the district’s safety protocols, Ventetuolo said.
District officials confirmed around 3:45 p.m. that law enforcement officials had given the all clear on campus and that families had been notified.
“At SMUSD we have strong safety protocols in place that were followed, and all students and staff remained safe,” Ventetuolo said. “We also thank our law enforcement partners who work closely with SMUSD teams to keep our communities safe.”
Investigators remained at the scene, and the campus remained in lockdown as of 2:50 p.m.
No other information was immediately available.
For the record: Sheriff's officials misidentified the school in a previous version of this story.
