The Ramona Junior Fair Pie Auction and BBQ will be held Saturday, May 31 with the theme of “Country Roots and Cowboy Boots.”

The event at the Ramona Junior Fairgrounds, 431 Aqua Lane, is a fundraiser for the FFA, 4-H and Grange youth agricultural programs, said Junior Fair President Jeff Becker. Proceeds will go toward scholarships, fairgrounds maintenance, capital improvements and activities for fair participants, he said.

“Everything that makes the fair happen for the kids,” Becker said.

This year’s fundraising goal is $20,000 or more, he said.

Last year’s Junior Fair Pie Auction raised $16,250, including $1,475 for Mrs. Toth’s World Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies, according to the tally. The jar of Toth cookies usually fetches $1,300 to $1,400 and one year was auctioned for $3,500, Becker said.

Homebaked donations of desserts can be dropped off at the Home Economics building at the Junior Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31. of FFA, 4-H and Grange usually provide the donations but anyone is welcome to donate homemade items, Becker said.

A barbecue meal of beef, pork and turkey served with beans, potato salad and macaroni salad will be available starting at 4 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, or $50 for a family meal that serves four people.

The auction of desserts will start at 6 p.m. led by auctioneer Matt Goram. Bidding is open to the public. Participants can check-in and get a bidding number.

A returning attraction to the Pie Auction this year is a Truck & Tractor Show, a free display of tractors, trucks and pickup trucks on the fairgrounds.

The Ramona Junior Fair is set for Saturday, July 26 to Saturday, Aug. 2. The Ramona Country Fair is set for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1-3.
