San Diego is getting a second Uniqlo store in Fashion Valley.
A mall spokesperson didn’t share an exact opening date, but said the store will open later this year on the mall’s second floor near Bloomingdale’s.
There is no mention of the new store on Uniqlo’s website and a Uniqlo brand representative did not reply to a question sent over email.
Last fall, San Diego got its first Uniqlo at Westfield UTC. More than 1,000 lined up outside the store — known for affordable, minimalist clothing — on its opening day.
The retailer is hiring for several roles in San Diego, including part-time retail sales ($17 an hour) and visual merchandising ($17 to $18 an hour). That job requires people to “ensure all merchandise is represented on the floor in full size runs and proper signage is present,” among other things. The job with the highest hourly rate is a full-time loss prevention supervisor ($28 an hour). Employees benefits include a store discount, a flexible spending and 401(k) matching, according to LinkedIn.
Uniqlo, which started as a textile maker in the mid 20th-century, has clothing stores across the globe.
Its growth in San Diego is part of a large expansion in the U.S. for the company. It plans to open 25 “new large-format, flagship-class, and other stores” over the next year in North America, pushing its total stores to over 100, the company says on its website. Its top states for e-commerce sales in 2024 were New York, California and Texas.
“Market potential is extremely high in both the USA and Canada,” it says, and adds, “We will train store managers and salespeople to have an entrepreneurial mindset, and work as a team to fulfill our aim of becoming the best-loved brand in North America.”
The company opened its first U.S. store in 2005.
Carlsbad outlet update
Carlsbad Outlets also recently made some changes to its store lineup.
San Diego County’s first Rag & Bone boutique opened there earlier this month.
The mall also added a Journeys shoe and accessories store.
And one store is coming soon: Hurley is scheduled to open Memorial Day Weekend.
