The Healing Powers of Companionship
Tuesday, May 27, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Discover how meaningful connections and personalized care can enhance well-being, improve mobility, and bring joy to everyday life. This engaging session will explore the profound impact of companionship on seniors, highlighting innovative approaches to fostering emotional and physical well-being. This insightful and empowering lecture is presented by Kim, the owner of Interim Healthcare of La Jolla, who brings 20 years of experience as a ed nurse (RN) to her role as a leader in senior care.
Light Movement and Longevity
Learning – Wednesday, May 28, June 11, and 25, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. This class is tailored to the needs of participants aged 60+ and designed to help improve their mobility, balance, and overall well-being through guided movement exercises and educational discussions on key longevity factors. The sessions focus on practical, science-backed strategies to enhance stability, t health, sleep quality, stress management, and nutrition. Conner Ward is a Certified Strength Coach, Breathwork Trainer, nutritionist, holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology, and is the owner of The SmartFit Method, a longevity-focused fitness studio.
Book Club with the Rancho Santa Fe Librarians
Wednesday, May 28, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. us for a lively discussion at the Senior Center of American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. The book is about a Mexican bookseller who is forced to flee as an undocumented immigrant to the United States, along with her son, after her journalist husband exposes a local drug kingpin. Pick up your copy of the book at the Rancho Santa Fe Library or a copy using your Libby app.
Readers and Writers Workshop
Tuesday, June 3, (Make-up class) 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Elizabeth St. John, critically acclaimed bestselling local author, and discuss the writer’s journey from inspiration to perspiration, discover insider techniques and tricks, and practice basic writing crafts from three-act drama to character arcs. All readers and writers are welcome. This class meets on the last Tuesday of each month.
Line Dancing with Heather Leon
Tuesday, June 3, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. In this fun, 60-minute class, you will learn basic line dance steps and choreography. Beginner line dances include Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, and Power Jam. Heather has over four decades of dance experience across many disciplines including jazz, ballet, modern, ballroom, country partner, and line dancing with a B.A. in modern dance choreography from UCLA. She is also a Pilates Master with 30 years’ experience. There is a $20 fee paid to the instructor.
Paint with Alex
Wednesday, June 4 and 18, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. All level painters are welcome to us in the studio with working artists and educator Alex Schaefer. Learn techniques to further your painting skills. Bring your own artwork and supplies (acrylic, oil, or watercolor) to work with Alex and fellow artists. There is a $20 fee per class paid to the instructor.
3-Part Series “Right Minded” with Doug Kamon
Thursday, June 5, 12 and 19, from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This three-week program helps participants shift from negative to positive thinking through brain-based research, practical exercises, and daily affirmations. Each session includes interactive activities, group discussion, and take-home materials. Learn how to stay positive and influence others to do the same. Doug Kamon is a veteran educator and a coach with 40 years of experience helping people build better mindsets and make positive choices.
ONGOING CLASSES
Healthy Longevity Class
Monday (weekly) from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Dr. Abraham Kim from Synaptic Integrated Medicine to explore health longevity practices incorporating qi gong, acupressure, and tai chi movements. This class will focus on techniques to enhance balance, coordination, energy, and long term neurological health and resilience. Dr. Abraham will share insights from his expertise in integrated medicine in neurology and longevity practices, offering valuable tips on preventing aging health conditions and optimizing overall well-being. A $10 courtesy fee is requested per session per person.
Open Play Mah Jongg
Monday (weekly) from 10 a.m. – noon. Enjoy a friendly game of beginner American Mahjongg, a tile-based game that is enjoyed by individuals throughout the world! A basic understanding of the tiles and rules is required.
Texas Hold’em Poker Lessons for Beginners
Monday (weekly) from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. This beginner’s class is designed to teach the fundamentals of Texas Hold’em in a fun and engaging environment. Chips and cards are provided, and ongoing open poker play will be available for beginners. This class is ideal for absolute beginners with no prior poker experience. This class is full, please call 858-756-3041 to be added to the waitlist.
Calling All Chess Players!
Tuesday (weekly) – 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Come and enjoy a friendly game of chess at the Senior Center and get a workout for your brain! Research has found evidence that playing chess may result in improved brain function, memory, cognitive abilities, and strategic thinking. Each Tuesday, enjoy a friendly game of chess at the RSF Senior Center. All levels of players are welcome. Free instruction is provided for beginners. Tables and playing pieces are furnished.
Chair Yoga
Thursday (weekly) 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Peggie Moore, a certified yoga Instructor, Reiki Master, and BEWELL Yoga for Cancer teacher, offers a weekly outdoor, in-person chair yoga class. This class will teach you techniques to improve core strength and balance, increase flexibility, and reduce stress. There is a $10 per person fee paid to the instructor. The first class is free.
Conversational Spanish
Friday (weekly) – Beginner/Intermediate Class 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and Intermediate Class 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Jeannette Caruth learned Spanish solely through conversation and invites you to become more familiar with the language. Each class is a one- hour adventure of hearing and speaking another language. All levels are welcome. There is a $10 fee per class paid to the instructor.

UCSD is seeking participants for The Women’s Memory Study. You must be female, age 65 or older, and no formal diagnosis of dementia. Results from this study could help develop specialized therapies for both men and women at risk for Alzheimer’s. With study completion, participants will receive a $300 Visa Gift Card.
