Two community events will be hosted in Poway on Saturday, May 17 by Poway City Councilmember Christopher Pikus and former Councilmember Anita Edmondson.
The first is a Sweep-the-Trails event starting at 8 a.m. for volunteers who want to clean walking trails along Twin Peaks Road. Participants will meet at the corner of Silverset and Twin Peaks roads, near the Arbolitos tennis courts.
Volunteers are asked to work about three hours cleaning debris on both sides of the road and then will take a lunch break, said Pikus, who is organizing the clean-up effort.
Participants are reminded to bring water, sunscreen, gloves and wear a hat and closed-toe shoes for protection.
If the clean-up is canceled due to rain it will be rescheduled for three weeks later on Saturday, June 7, Pikus said.
Later that morning, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a free water workshop will be presented at the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road.
The workshop will be co-hosted by Edmondson and the Green Valley Civic Association (GVCA). The speaker will be Cathy Pieroni, a former employee of the city of San Diego’s Water Department and Inland Empire Utilities Agency with 30 years of experience in the water industry.
The Poway resident since 2006 will share information about regional water management and explain water costs and water rate adjustments.
While some costs are within Poway’s control, the cost of its drinking water supplies is controlled elsewhere, states an event flier. This is an opportunity to understand the complexity of water management in the county and Southern California and what drives rates locally, the flier said.
To RSVP for the workshop, email Edmondson at [email protected]. For more information, call 858-354-2135.
Neither of the events is sponsored by the city.
