La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic & Dermatology bills itself as the place “where you want to come when the reflection in the mirror is not what you want it to be.”

It offers several nonsurgical procedures, many with no downtime afterward, designed to make clients look more refreshed, youthful, slimmer and vibrant and feel more confident.

The clinic, founded by Dr. Nasrin Mani, an ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, also is staffed by dermatologists Dr. Faryal Siddiqui, Dr. Solomiya Grushchak and Dr. Christopher Barnard; ed nurses Tammy Harrington and Brianna Baldwin; and medical aesthetician Amberlee Maybeno.

Barnard, who ed the clinic in October, is originally from Maryland and served aboard the USS Nimitz with Helicopter Squadron 9 before attending medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and an internal medicine residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

He completed his dermatology residency at Stanford University School of Medicine.

He recently relocated to La Jolla from the Monterey Peninsula, where he had a private practice in dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery for 26 years. Mohs is a technique used to remove skin cancer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. It involves repeatedly removing thin layers of skin and examining them under a microscope to ensure all cancer cells are eradicated.

Barnard also is an adjunct associate clinical professor at Stanford, where he has taught dermatologic surgery for many years.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Mohs Surgery.

He also served as president of the San Francisco Dermatological Society and was medical director of the Stanford Telemedicine Program from 1995 to 1997 and later chief executive of Connections 365, a private teledermatology provider.

His current focus is on cutaneous imaging methods for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.

La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic & Dermatology is at 7720 Fay Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, call 858-454-2700 or visit lajollalaser.com.
