Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed a local prosecutor to be a San Diego Superior Court judge, his office announced Wednesday.

Jihan Maloney has served as a deputy district attorney at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office since 2011, the governor’s office said.

She earned her law school degree from the California Western School of Law and was itted to the State Bar in 2011, according to the State Bar. Her LinkedIn page states she earned her bachelor’s degree in business istration and management from the University of San Diego.

Maloney will take the judicial seat vacated by the retirement of Judge David Gill. She is ed without party preference.

Superior court judges in California receive compensation of about $245,000 a year.
