April was fairly cloudy and cool along the San Diego County coastline, and May will start the same way as low pressure from the northwest continues to thicken the marine layer.
“There are no fully sunny days in the immediate forecast,” said Sebastian Westerink, a forecaster at the National Weather Service.
San Diego’s daytime high will be 66 Thursday and Friday, 65 Saturday and 61 Sunday. The average seasonal high is 69.
A weak storm will usher in colder air Friday and could produce showers well into Saturday. Forecasters say the system also could whip up 20 to 25 mph wind gusts at the coast starting early Saturday evening.
The “May gray” pattern won’t ease until early next week, when temperatures turn warmer.
Preliminary data show the average temperature at San Diego International Airport in April will turn out to be 61.8, or 1.1 degrees below normal. The airport recorded 0.22 inches of rain, which is 0.42 inches below normal.
Since the rainy season began Oct. 1, the airport has gotten 4.40 inches of precipitation, 4.84 inches below normal.
