MADCAPS benefit show scheduled in Point Loma

MADCAPS, or Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies, will present its 2025 benefit show, the Coachella-themed “Madchella Music Festival,” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, and 5 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland Drive.

OB Community Foundation’s next meeting is Feb. 26

After postponing its January meeting, the Ocean Beach Community Foundation plans to hold its next public forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the Marla Haas Community Room at the Point Loma/Hervey Library, 3701 Voltaire St.

The foundation cited scheduling conflicts at the library in postponing the meeting from Jan. 22.

OBCF also said its Holiday Hoedown & Auction on Dec. 12 featured more than 110 guests, 56 donated auction packages and 13 raffles and grossed $9,705 to help cover the group’s expenses for its holiday events, including the Holiday Parade and Food & Toy Drive.

The organization added that the 2024 Food & Toy Drive benefited 71 senior citizens and 91 families, including 195 children.

Concerts in Point Loma to celebrate Early Music Month

The San Diego Early Music Society and Bach Collegium San Diego will present concerts in Point Loma in March to help celebrate Early Music Month.

The Early Music Society will present Paul Goussot in a recital of music for organ by Bach and Handel, as well as several improvisations, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 1475 Catalina Blvd.

Bach Collegium will present Jean-Féry Rebel’s “Les Élémens” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C minor” at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, also at All Souls’ Episcopal Church.

Skateboarding fundraising event to aid Ocean Beach Elementary

The Ocean Beach Elementary School PTA and Ocean Beach Surf and Skate will present the 13th annual Skate for the Kids, a fundraising event ing school programs and beautification, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the Robb Field Skate Park, 2525 Bacon St.

The event will feature a free skateboarding clinic for children, and skaters of all skill levels and ages can compete for prizes. There also will be raffles, a silent auction, food, music from a DJ, vendor booths and more.

‘An Artist @ the Table’ to feature dinner and music in Point Loma

Vanguard Culture’s “An Artist @ the Table,” a dinner and concert featuring 16-year-old violin virtuoso Rubi Lee, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at a private residence in Point Loma.

The concert will celebrate NPR’s “From the Top” program, a one-hour classical music show on public radio featuring pre-collegiate musicians. Rubi participated in “From the Top” in 2022 and has performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall three times.

Tickets to “An Artist @ the Table” are $156.95. Proceeds will benefit Vanguard Culture, a San Diego arts nonprofit. For more information, go to bit.ly/4k1Wu5m.
