The Home Electrification Fair hosted by the Citizen’s Climate Lobby in partnership with the city of Encinitas is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. The fair features information about maximizing use of electricity and solar energy in the home. The event includes exhibitors and a chance to talk with “electrification” experts along with resources and a seminar by the Home Energy Academy from 1 to 1:30 p.m. There will be an induction cooking demo, children’s activities and green homes tours from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 22 in Encinitas and Feb. 23 in Scripps Ranch and 4S Ranch. ission is free. Happy Tales story time at animal shelter
Happy Tales story time for children 6 and older to read aloud to dogs, cats and rabbits awaiting adoption is held from 11 a.m. to noon or 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Feb. 23 at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, 389 Requeza St. Cost is $10 per child. Readers can bring their own books or borrow a book from the shelter’s library. Sessions are limited to six children. Each child must be supervised by a parent. State of the City address
The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce will hold the Encinitas State of the City address from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 20 at the Encinitas Community & Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. The community event will include an update about the city and vision for the future by Encinitas Mayor Bruce Ehlers. Also, the Encinitas chamber, Visit Encinitas and the three 101 Mainstreet Associations will give updates. Concert to benefit L.A. fire victims
The Finest City Wind Orchestra will perform “Sound the Bells” at 3 p.m. March 2 as part of the Concerts at Calvary program at Calvary Lutheran Church, 424 Via de la Valle. The concert will include music from composers John Williams, Julie Giroux and Percy Grainger, among others. The orchestra is directed by Jeff Malecki, Music Department chair at the University of San Diego. The ensemble’s 45 musicians are from San Diego County and the Southern California area, and many play and teach music professionally. There will be snacks after the concert and a time to meet the musicians. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $20 for adults; free for youths. Donations will go to Lutheran Disaster Response to benefit Los Angeles-area fire victims. Tickets can be purchased at calvarylutheranchurch.org or at the door, 30 minutes before the concert.
10th Annual 15-Inch Cup Challenge benefiting Operation Game On
The 10th Annual 15-Inch Cup Challenge benefiting Operation Game On, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, will be held Monday, March 10, from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, Driving Range, 15150 San Dieguito Road, Rancho Santa Fe. Operation Game On’s simple mission is to provide golf as a form of rehabilitation for returning combat-injured veterans suffering from physical and mental disabilities. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the 15-Inch Cup Challenge will benefit OGO, according to a news release. The 15-inch Cup Challenge will take place on the driving range, with four distances ranging from 50 to 125 yards. The event will include unlimited food and drinks for all participants. North Coast Symphony Presents “Mid-Century Gems”
The North Coast Symphony Orchestra presents Mid-Century Gems, a program of exciting orchestral music featuring a tuba concerto, on Saturday, March 8,at 2:30 p.m. at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdelena, Encinitas. The performance features Aaron McCalla, principal tubist with the San Diego Symphony, in Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto. The concert also includes Sergei Prokoviev’s Symphony No. 7 and Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances. Historic Downtown Encinitas Walking Tour
The Encinitas Historical Society offers this fun educational tour on the third Saturday of every month with more varied walking paths. The tours start at the 1883 One-Room Schoolhouse, located at 390 West F Street, Encinitas. There is plenty of free parking available. Curator of rose collection at Huntington Gardens to speak at Del Mar Rose Society event
Del Mar Rose Society presents Tom Carruth, curator of the three-acre rose collection at the Huntington Gardens. Scholarship offered to college-bound students
Wheelhouse Credit Union San Diego is accepting scholarship applications from college-bound high school seniors. League of Women Voters holds celebration
The League of Women Voters of North County San Diego hosts a birthday celebration at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the national League of Women Voters.
