
Forward Sasha Pastujov has been a bright spot during an otherwise rough season for the San Diego Gulls.
On Wednesday, the second-year Gulls winger was named the American Hockey League’s Player of the Month. Pastujov scored six goals and added 13 assists in 19 January games. He has scored points in 11 straight games, which ties current Anaheim Ducks winger Troy Terry for the longest streak in Gulls history.
Pastujov, who started the season with Tulsa of the ECHL, matched a Gulls record with four assists in a 5-1 win over Iowa on Jan. 8, scored a game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over Tucson on Jan. 10, recorded a goal and two assists against Iowa on Jan. 15 — and did it again at Calgary on Jan. 25.
In 29 games with the Gulls, Pastujov has scored 12 goals, logged a team-high 17 assists and posted a team-high 29 points.
The Gulls (12-23-4-2, 30 points) have lost two straight and six of seven entering Friday’s 7 p.m. game against Coachella Valley at Pechanga Arena. They visit Ontario on Saturday at 6 p.m. All Gulls games stream via go.flosports.tv.
Seals in need of wins
The San Diego Seals (3-5) have lost three straight heading into a pivotal stretch that begins Saturday with a game at Toronto (3-5). With nine regular-season games remaining, the Seals sit in 12th place in the 14-team National Lacrosse League. Eight teams make the NLL postseason.
Sockers rolling
The San Diego Sockers (10-1-0, 28 points) have won 10 straight entering Friday’s 5:05 p.m. game at Kansas City (8-1-2, 26).
Despite the hot streak, San Diego sits third in the Major Arena Soccer League, trailing first-place Chihuahua (13-2-0, 37 points) and second-place Baltimore (10-1-0, 29 points) as the regular season approaches the halfway point.
The Sockers and Kansas City lead the MASL with fewest goals allowed (64). The Sockers beat the Comets 7-4 at Frontwave Arena on Jan. 15 in the first of three meetings between the teams this season.
Mojo back home
The San Diego Mojo (3-4) host the first-place Vegas Thrill (6-2) at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Viejas Arena. The match will stream at youtube.com/@RealProVB.
The Mojo are coming off a 3-0 loss at Grand Rapids on Saturday, the team’s second straight defeat.
On Wednesday, second-year Mojo head coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park was named as an assistant on Erick Sullivan’s staff for the U.S. Women’s National team ahead of the 2028 Oympics in Los Angeles. Haneef-Park was a three-time Olympian and two-time silver medalist as a player.
