Led by the men’s and women’s basketball teams, San Diego State is coming off a strong week across its athletic spectrum.

While the SDSU men were winning close games against San Jose State and Wyoming at home, the women scored a 59-46 win at New Mexico on Saturday — capturing a second straight victory over a team ahead of them in the Mountain West standings.

The Aztecs (16-7, 5-5) began the fourth quarter on a 17-2 run. They also held the hosts to 27 points below their season average; UNM went 3 for 29 from 3-point range and shot 23% overall from the floor. Freshman guard Naomi Panganiban led the Aztecs with 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting.

Forward Kim Villalobos scored 12 points while playing in a school-record 142nd game. Forward Cali Clark had 13 points and 17 rebounds, the most rebounds by an Aztec in a game in six years. The Aztecs play at Fresno State Wednesday and return home to Viejas Arena Saturday to host Wyoming in a 1 p.m. matinee.
