<p>The newly re-elected Dana King was named the Solana Beach School District board’s new president.</p><p>The board held its organizational session on Dec. 19 after three board , King, Katie Süel and Tonya Koshy took the oath of office. All three had run unopposed for their seats in the November election.</p><p>King was selected as the board’s new president and outgoing president Debra Schade was picked to serve as vice president. Gaylin Allbaugh will continue in her role as clerk.</p><p>The new board president King was first provisionally appointed to the board in 2020 and elected in 2022. The businessman, entrepreneur and parent of twins who successfully went through the district, served as vice president for the last year. Prior to ing the board, King also served on the district’s Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, helping to monitor expenditures from the Measure JJ general obligation bond. The Solana Beach resident represents Trustee Area 2 which includes Solana Beach and portions of Rancho Santa Fe.</p><p>Süel was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2023 and with this election will now serve a shortened two-year term through 2026. She is a Carmel Valley resident, dedicated PTA member and substitute teacher with a background in molecular biology. Her Area 3 seat represents Carmel Valley and portions of Rancho Santa Fe.</p><p>The newest board member, Koshy, represents Area 5, which includes Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch. She is filling the seat left vacant by Julie Union, who stepped down last fall after serving the community for 12 years. Koshy, a parent and entrepreneur worked in the tech industry while remaining involved in the Solana Beach school community through her volunteer work and participation in the Solana Beach Schools Foundation.</p><p>At the meeting, Vice President Schade was also recognized for her new statewide leadership position as she was recently named president-elect of the California School Boards Association.</p><p>”Her dedication to public education and steadfast commitment to serving every student and family are truly inspiring,” said Superintendent Jennifer Burks. “We are grateful for the impact she continues to make to both the Solana Beach School District and the state of California.”</p>
