
Men’s soccer teams from the University of San Diego and San Diego State continued to roll over the weekend, while the Mesa College football team defeated Southwestern College 48-7 to set up a Nov. 9 showdown at Riverside for the National Southern League title.
Steven Ramirez scored the goals and goalkeeper Donovan Parisian turned in back-to-back shutouts as the No. 4-ranked Toreros won 1-0 games at San Francisco and Pacific to run their record to 12-1-2 overall. Luca Fava assisted on both Ramirez goals.
The Aztecs scored a 2-0 win over Air Force Sunday afternoon to clinch the Western Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 7-0-1 record. San Diego State is 10-4-3 overall.
Djibril Doumbia, the reigning Goalkeeper of the Week in the WAC, turned in his fourth straight shutout as the Aztec defense held Air Force to one shot on goal. Terence Okoeguale scored the Aztecs first goal on a penalty kick in the 29th minute and defender Reid Fisher scored his first goal of the season on a header off a cross from Austin Brummett.
The Aztecs will be the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament when it opens Nov. 13.
• San Diego State’s women’s soccer team (9-7-4) will face No. 1 seed Boise State Wednesday in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament being played on the Aztec Sports Deck.
• Quarterback Jax Leatherwood (Scripps Ranch High School) went 22 for 33 for 247 yards and four touchdowns Saturday as Mesa College ran its record to 7-1. Running backs Santiago Salas (Mission Hills High; 11 carries, 73 yards), Danny Davis (San Pasqual High; 11-65 with a touchdown) and Derek McClintic (Vista High; 4-54 and a touchdown) combined for 182 yards rushing. Conor Lawlor (Scripps Ranch) caught three es for 89 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown throw from Leatherwood. Lincoln High graduates Dazure Paggett each had four receptions. Tucker had two touchdowns, while Paggett had one.
Mesa College is ranked sixth in California while Riverside is No. 2 heading into Saturday.

Bethany Arabe, Zoe Crockett and Grace Nelson scored goals as PLNU’s defending national championship women’s soccer team defeated Biola 3-0 Sunday at home to improve to 11-2-1 overall and 8-1 in PacWest conference play.
The Sea Lions are ranked 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The men (10-1-3 overall and 8-0-1 in the PacWest) are ranked 10th after a 3-1 win over Biola behind two goals by Zach Mercieca and one from Milan Diklic with Elijah Langford having two assists.
Meanwhile, junior Madeline Reeves finished fourth with a school record, six-kilometer time of 21 minutes and 5.9 seconds to lead PLNU to a third-place team finish in the PacWest women’s cross country finals at UC Irvine. Fellow juniors Elizabeth Satterlee (21:30) and Zaila Smith (21:38), respectively, finished ninth and 12th.
• Cal State San Marcos senior Madison Murr shot a six-under par 67-71 (138) to win the individual title and lead the Cougars to the team title of the 15-college Shark Shootout golf tournament in Hawaii. Cougars’ Makenna Cabardo and Hannah Anderson tied for seventh at 145.
• In the California Collegiate Athletic Association cross country championships at Fresno, junior Sankalp Shastri covered the eight kilometers in 24:26.3 to finish fifth and lead CSUM to fourth in the team standings. The Cougars women placed fifth, with junior Angela McManus being the top individual with a time of 22:01.2 for six kilometers.
• Mesa College was almost perfect in sweeping the men’s and women’s titles at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships.
Ronald Way (La Jolla High) won the men’s individual title in 20:40.5 for four miles and was followed by teammate Ian Rosen (Grossmont High, 20:41.6) and Cuyamaca College’s Ivan Guzman (20:41.9) as the Olympians won the team title with 18 points. Cuyamaca was second followed by San Diego City College and Southwestern College.
Mesa had a perfect score of 15 in the women’s race, which was won by Clairemont High graduate Alexis Noble (19:07.0 over 5 kilometers). She was followed by teammate Joelle Tonne, an Oceanside High grad who finished in 19:07.8.
