The San Diego Wave’s future won’t include Alex Morgan, Abby Dahlkemper or Sofia Jakobsson
Kristen McNabb, another original member of the Wave, remains all in. The club announced Thursday that it has signed the veteran defender to a two-year contract extension that will run through the end of 2026. She has been a part of the Wave since the club’s inaugural season in 2022, logging more than 5,000 minutes over 61 NWSL regular-season matches.
A versatile player who can also play midfielder, McNabb has scored five goals.
“I’ve loved being part of the Wave since the inaugural season and am excited to stay in San Diego and continue to grow both personally and professionally,” McNabb said. “I love the community and the fans and feel very lucky that I get to be a part of this team for another two years.”
McNabb is the 16th player under contract for next season. Stars Naomi Girma, Jaedyn Shaw and Kailen Sheridan are just finishing the first year of their three-year contracts, and stnadout striker María Sánchez is under contract through 2026 with a mutual option for 2027.
Kenned Wesley, Mya Jones, Melanie Barcenas, Kaitlyn Torpey, Christen Westphal, Makenzy Doniak and Emily Van Egmond are all under contract through 2025. Delphine Cascarino, Perele Morloni, Savannah McCaskill and Kimmi Ascanio are locked up through 2026.
Amirah Ali, Hanna Lundkvist and Kyra Carusa all have options for the 2025 season.
San Diego Wave Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton called McNabb “an integral part of the team.”
“Her versatility across the back line and experience in the league are invaluable as we build for 2025 and beyond,” she said.
San Diego will play the final regular season match of the 2024 season on Nov. 3 at Snapdragon Stadium. At 5-13-7, the Wave sit in 13th place in the 14-team NWSL.
