A 23-year-old Chula Vista woman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of DUI after allegedly crashing her vehicle on an Interstate 5 off-ramp, killing a pedestrian, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident occurred around 9:10 p.m. on the southbound Imperial Avenue offramp near downtown.

The woman was driving her vehicle on the offramp when it veered off the road and struck an embankment and an electrical box, the CHP said in a release.

The electrical box then struck a female pedestrian, causing major injuries. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian’s name has not been released pending family notification.

The suspect was not named by CHP.

The incident remains under investigation.
