Temperatures soared across San Diego County on Wednesday in the start of what the National Weather Service says could turn out to be a dangerous heat wave, with near-record highs in many areas, especially east of Interstate 15.
The peak highs will occur on Thursday and Friday. But forecasters are now saying that Saturday will only be marginally cooler.
For the moment, energy conservation by the public has not been requested by the California Independent System Operator, which manages about 80 percent of the state’s power grid. But the situation is being closely monitored.

“The power grid is currently stable and energy supply is projected to be sufficient to meet demand,” said CA-ISO spokesperson Anne Gonzales. “No Flex Alerts are planned at this time, but we are asking Californians to be ready in case we need to call for voluntary conservation.”
