Temperatures will be in the mid-70s and rising Saturday, with little or no sea breeze, when a projected 250,000 people turn out for the San Diego Pride Parade in Hillcrest, the National Weather Service says.
The city’s largest annual, single-day civic event will start at 10 a.m., when the marine layer will still be thinning out. But the temperature could hit 80 by early afternoon in Balboa Park, the end point of the parade and the site of many of Pride’s biggest outdoor parties.
Other parts of the county will be even hotter. A large high-pressure system will progressively raise temperatures into Saturday, when the heat peaks.
The daily high in Escondido will reach 85 on Thursday, 89 on Friday, 91 on Saturday and 89 on Sunday. Borrego Springs will be 111 on Thursday, 113 on Friday, 116 on Saturday and 115 on Sunday.
Drivers could encounter even higher temperatures on Saturday if they travel on eastern Interstate 8 around the San Diego and Imperial County line.
So far, the average temperature in San Diego for July is 71.1 degrees, 1 degree above average.
Temperatures are expected to be at or slightly above normal through next Wednesday, when preview night gets under way at Comic-Con in downtown San Diego. About 130,000 people are expected to attend the nearly five-day event.
