UPDATED:

All children ages 2 to 18 years old can get a free lunch at Ramona and Hanson elementary schools during four weeks of summer vacation.

Free lunches will be available Mondays through Fridays from June 17 to July 12. They will be served in the cafeteria from noon to 1 p.m. at Ramona Elementary, 415 Eighth St., and from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Hanson Elementary, 2520 Boundary Ave.

The programs will be closed on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, July 4.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and istered by Ramona Unified School District, the free meals are offered to all children in the community, regardless of whether they attend Ramona Unified schools, said Jonas Rooth, the school district’s director of Food and Nutrition Services.

There is no enrollment process, no income verification and no paperwork, Rooth said.

Summer lunch menus follow the USDA National School Lunch Program meal pattern, which includes lean protein, whole grains, a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables, and low fat or fat-free milk.

Lunch must be consumed on site, and each child may be served one lunch per day. Adults are welcome to purchase a lunch meal for $5.50.

For more information, call Ramona Unified’s Food and Nutrition Services Department at 760-787-2048 or visit the website ramonausd.net.
