In order to advance to Saturday’s Pro Volleyball Federation championship game — and the $1 million check that comes with a title — the San Diego Mojo will need to beat one of the league’s hottest teams Wednesday night on their home floor.

No matter. Few teams have been playing better the last few months than the Mojo, San Diego’s first-year women’s indoor volleyball team. San Diego (13-12) has won 12 of its last 19 matches. The Mojo won three in five days last week, vaulting from No. 4 to No. 3 in the standings and securing a more favorable playoff draw.

Wednesday, the third-seeded Mojo will take on the second-seeded Omaha Supernovas in the PVF semifinals played at CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha, Neb. The winner of Wednesday’s match, which starts at 6:30 p.m. PDT, advances to play either No. 1 Atlanta or No. 4 Grand Rapids on Saturday for the championship.

San Diego and Omaha split their two regular-season matches, with the Mojo winning their most recent match in five sets on April 23.

The Mojo are led by outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide, who on Tuesday was named the PVF Player of the Week after ing a league record with 30 kills and 32 points in a win over Orlando. San Diego’s Nootsara Tomkom was named the league’s top setter on Tuesday after posting an average of 10.59 assists per game during the regular season. Tomkom and middle blocker Ronika Stone were both named second-team all-league.

The PVF will announce its league MVP and coach of the year on Thursday.
