The Cox volunteers participated in weeding, planting, composting and assisting with bed rotations, as well as a building demolition. Volunteers also painted, renovated and refreshed structures around the farm including a classroom, restrooms and event space.
Coastal Roots Farm was one of five nonprofits in San Diego County selected for Team Cox volunteers to during Cox’s Volunteer Month in April. Nearly 500 Cox employees volunteered a total of 1,705 hours with the nonprofits to make a positive impact in the community. Cox has a social impact goal to help 34 million people live more prosperous lives by 2034, the news release stated.
The other nonprofits selected were I Love A Clean San Diego, USS Midway Museum, Feeding San Diego, and Lucky Duck Foundation.
Although volunteerism in the U.S. continues to decline, Cox employees volunteer all year long, and so far this year, have volunteered more than 2,200 hours in communities countywide. Earlier this year, they participated in a community cleanup after the historic floods devastated San Diego neighborhoods, and in the summer, hundreds of employees will participate in Cox’s annual beach cleanup.
