Opulent lights, lush vegetation, peacock-colored tablecloths and the scent of cinnamon are among the things guests can expect when Las Patronas presents its 2024 Jewel Ball, themed “Meet Me in Marrakesh.”
At the annual preview April 25 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla, Las Patronas provided glimpses of the ball decor and offered this year’s six major beneficiaries a chance to explain their organizations and missions.
The Adapt Functional Movement Center, Center for Community Solutions, KPBS, Guide Dogs of America, Urban Street Angels and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance will receive grants of at least $20,000 each.
Las Patronas is a La Jolla-based women’s philanthropic organization that assists nonprofits throughout San Diego County. Proceeds from a year of Las Patronas fundraising, as well as the Jewel Ball, help the causes.
Guests at the preview were told what they can expect at the ball, which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
“Step into the enchanting world of Marrakesh, leaving the familiar behind as we embark on a journey through the vibrant colors and exotic allure of Morocco,” said Sara Carpenter, a member of the design team. “As you arrive … majestic walls adorned with intricate designs will greet you, signaling the beginning of a captivating experience, teasing you for what lies beyond.”
Decorative touches will include bougainvilleas, gilded doors, potted plants and a large arch.
“A vibrant Moroccan oasis awaits … [with] the rich and exotic ambiance of a spice market, where the air is filled with the tantalizing scents of cumin, saffron and cinnamon,” said design team member Ashley Jacobs.
Colorful textiles, belly dancers and golden lanterns also will help set the scene, she added.
