Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the “Waste to Wonder” event at the Encinitas Community Center on Saturday, May 11. The event will feature local food and drinks, a silent auction and impactful presentations on the organization’s history, current initiatives and future plans.
“We have never held a celebration like this. Past staff, volunteers, community , board , and the organization’s founding employees are coming from all around the country,” said Executive Director Jessica Toth in a news release. “This will be a gathering of concerned community and change-makers, who have influenced local and national environmental outcomes.”
Solana Center is credited with pioneering the first comprehensive curbside recycling program in Southern California and one of the first community-based recycling programs in the country. For 40 years, they have sought innovative solutions to climate change through education, community engagement and research. They offer environmental education, residential and commercial waste prevention, recycling and community-based sustainable resource lending to reduce consumption.
“If you live in San Diego County, you have been impacted by Solana Center’s programming,” said Solana Center board President Russell Levan in the news release.
