Strong winds to gust through parts of San Diego County late Wednesday and Thursday

Forecasters say that sporadic showers could follow on Friday, possibly lasting into Saturday.

UPDATED:

Santa Ana winds will begin blowing across much of Southern California late Wednesday and last well into Thursday, with some strong gusts making their way into parts of San Diego County, the National Weather Service said.

The winds will appear first in Orange County and the Inland Empire, which will get sustained winds of 20 mph to 30 mph, with gusts to 60 mph to 80 mph in some areas, forecasters said.

It appears that the winds will then expand into San Diego County, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in the mountains, potentially causing difficult driving conditions on eastern Interstate 8. The winds could reach 30 mph in some North County beach cities, notably Oceanside.

Onshore winds will blunt the offshore Santa Anas in south coastal San Diego County.
