Looking to bring together local planning groups, service clubs, philanthropic organizations, merchants, restaurants and more, an event next week plans to provide an introduction to all that “makes La Jolla La Jolla.”

The inaugural “La Jolla 101” is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Pacific Sotheby’s office at 1111 Prospect St. in The Village. The event, led by local Realtor Amber Anderson, is intended to provide a platform for organizations to explain or show what they do and for guests to network and socialize.

The plan is to have the event twice a year, with rotating presenters.

La Jolla 101 will be held at the same time as a similar event that day presented by the La Jolla Town Council called “One Voice,” which also brings together local groups to share what they do. However, One Voice is focused on community planning groups, while La Jolla 101 features social groups and businesses as well.

“There are so many organizations in La Jolla, from planning committees to charities and clubs,” Anderson said. “There are social, political and philanthropic ways to get involved in La Jolla, but not one central resource to get information about every one of them in one spot. We intend to highlight these organizations so everyone can share what they have going on.”

As examples, she said, restaurants may provide samples and artists can showcase their works.

“The demographics and goals are different from events that just spotlight planning groups,” Anderson said. “We will have champagne and a red carpet. … It is not agenda-driven and [is] more focused on the La Jolla lifestyle. It’s more about getting information to people rather than addressing a problem.”

Thus far, representatives of state and local governments and local organizations have committed to attend, Anderson said. They include Enhance La Jolla, La Jolla Art & Wine Festival, La Jolla Open Aire Market, La Jolla Historic Society, La Jolla Concours d’Elegance, St. Germaine Children’s Charity, Las Patronas, La Jolla Social, La Jolla Town Council, First Friday Art Walk, Life Time fitness center, La Jolla Community Foundation, La Jolla Garden Club, Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial and La Jolla Christmas Parade & Holiday Festival.

Anderson was board president of the La Jolla Village Merchants Association before reg in October.

She said part of the reason she ed the merchants association was to present events like La Jolla 101, but she was never able to.

“I wanted to form relationships with all these groups and become this resource for the people that call La Jolla home,” Anderson said. “I wanted to bring people together and get them involved in the community however is right for them. We just want to celebrate, showcase and highlight … La Jolla.”

The event will feature a one-hour program with networking before and after. For more information and to RSVP, visit thelajolla101.com or call Anderson at (858) 333-6458. ◆
