Lessons learned from Poway Unified softball investigation

I understand the trustees have to reserve specific comment on an HR action, but they have to they are a school board with a constituency of students and parents. They need to seriously look at their transparency policy and how they address student and parent complaints and issues.

This should never have gotten to a lawsuit that now is going to cost more out of the budget. Based on the allegations, all they had to do was immediately (without the delay) initiate the investigation and announce that they did that.

They also should have called in the impacted parties (immediately) and advised them privately of the action(s) they were taking. In my experience, this investigation should have taken no more than a week, and decisive action (after advice from counsel) another week, at most.

I don’t know who is advising the board (staff?) but their policy is not beneficial to the students and parents, nor the board itself. This is a board that historically has had many, many, many problems over the years, even with the various changes of .

A deep dive into their policies and advisory staff is absolutely required, in addition to some major changes at the ballot box.

Dangers of E-bikes

Last week, a student at my high school was hit by a car while on their E-bike. Just a few days before, another student was hit, prompting fire trucks to arrive in our senior parking lot.

In less than a week, there have been two accidents caused by careless drivers. Ordinary students wanting to go home have ended up in a hospital bed.

As a citizen of Poway, I believe that biking in San Diego can be risky, but not dangerous if one is careful enough. The lack of maintenance of our roads and the amount of inconsiderate drivers are not being looked over enough.

Accidents happening around high schools are mainly caused by drivers who are not paying attention to their surroundings. A boy on an E-bike going down Espola Road, crossing an intersection with regular traffic, was hit by a driver that was turning right.

There could have been many factors contributing to this incident, but it ultimately came down to a person being injured, whether it was minor or not.

Another reason for some bicycle accidents is uneven gravel, which can leave victims with torn knees or even unconscious, if the accident is serious.

Although biking in Poway is a convenient way to get around with the accessibility of stores and other locations, money should be put into our roads. But how will we be able to fund the streets if accidents are happening and we are constantly putting in money toward the injured?
