UPDATED:

A water- closure was issued Tuesday, Feb. 6, for the Dog Beach area in Ocean Beach because of a sewage spill, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality.

The closure was declared at about 4 p.m.

The department said the ocean in that area contains sewage and may cause illness, and it urged all beach-goers to stay out of the water.

The water closure will remain in effect until sampling and field observations confirm the area is safe, the agency said.
