Target adds Starbucks orders to its drive-up pickup service
If you’ve been craving one of those new Starbucks Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Lattes while waiting in your car for your Drive-Up Target order, your world is about to be rocked.
You can now order Starbucks drinks and food from any Target location’s in-store Starbucks Café and have it brought to your car when you pick up your drive-up order from Target.
“No getting kids out of the car, trekking to the checkout or waiting in line required,” Target said on its website.
(In related news, parents of small children everywhere are pinching themselves. Yes, this is real.)
San Diego stores have already rolled this out, and it will also be offered at the more than 1,700 Target stores that have Starbucks Cafés and offer the drive-up service. The company added that Target is the first retailer to offer this service at this scale.
Several San Diego County Target stores have Starbucks Cafés and Drive Up. These include: Kearny Mesa, Sports Arena, Balboa, Mission Valley, Lemon Grove, Grossmont, Santee, Rancho San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido, Del Sur, Poway and Mira Mesa.

Nordstrom Rack coming to Clairemont Towne Square
Looking for some discounted designer boots or a wool cape to go with your Krispy Kreme apple cinnamon doughnut? This iconic fall pairing can indeed be yours — in 2024.
Nordstrom is expanding its San Diego footprint with a new Nordstrom Rack store in Clairemont. The 26,000-square-foot store in Clairemont Town Square — also home to Krispy Kreme, Chili’s and Reading Cinemas Town Square — is eyeing a fall 2024 opening.
Nordstrom Rack, the discount arm of the eponymous high-end retailer founded in 1901, will add to the mall’s already solid lineup of value-focused clothing retailers. They include T.J. Maxx, Burlington, Carter’s and Ross Dress for Less.
“We look forward to opening this new Nordstrom Rack location in San Diego, strengthening our network of stores and introducing new customers to Nordstrom Rack’s unique product offering,” Carl Jenkins, the company’s senior vice president of Nordstrom Rack Stores, said in a statement. “In addition to shopping great brands at great prices, our customers in San Diego can take full advantage of this convenient new location to pick up online orders and make returns.”
The new store will land about halfway between the La Jolla and Mission Valley Nordstrom Rack locations, building up the brand’s presence in central coastal San Diego County. Three other Nordstrom Rack locations are spread out in South and North counties. A seventh is planned for Oceanside in 2024.
With this opening and several others planned, Nordstrom will operate 68 Nordstrom Rack stores in California.
Nordstrom’s discount retailer sells items at up to 70 percent off and it offers online pickup for Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com.
“Nordstrom Rack is the largest source of new customers to Nordstrom,” the company said on its website.
Super Star Car Wash celebrates grand opening with free car washes
A shiny new car wash in Mission Valley is offering free car washes as a chance to win over new customers. The only catch: listen to a 20-second pitch about their car wash subscription plan.
Super Star Car Wash, on 5448 Mission Center Road, opened about three weeks ago, an employee working there said Tuesday. She added that while she doesn’t know how long the free car wash promotion will continue, promotions tend to last about a month.
Along with the free washes, the company is offering a subscription deal, she said.
An unlimited Super Protect wash plan is on sale for $14.95 for the first month — a discount from the regular price of $24.95.
The company, with 13 stores either already open or scheduled to open across San Diego County, is positioning itself as a value car wash destination.
“Every Super Star Car Wash location offers free amenities like vacuums, air for inflating your tires, compressed air for cleaning, and complimentary use of microfiber towels,” the company’s website said.
