
The autumnal equinox is still 11 days away. But a touch of fall will settle across San Diego County as early as Tuesday with the return of cool winds off the ocean, the National Weather Service said.
Remnants of former Hurricane Jova could produce light, isolated rain on Monday. But the system will be gone by Tuesday, and daytime highs will become progressively cooler for the rest of the week.
The daytime high in San Diego is expected to be 79 on Monday, 74 on Tuesday, 73 on Wednesday, and 72 on Thursday and Friday. The seasonal high is 78.
Escondido will be 88 on Monday, 83 on Tuesday, 79 on Wednesday, 78 on Thursday and 78 on Friday.
About the only locals who will be experiencing hot weather in the near future will be of the San Diego State University football team, who will play Oregon State University in Corvallis on Sept. 16. The daytime high in Corvallis will be 88.
Sea-surface temperatures are in a different state, ranging from 69 to 70 degrees, which is 4 to 5 degrees warmer than it usually is this time of year.
The water was even cooler a week earlier apparently due to the coastal winds that caused cooler, deep water to rise to the surface, a phenomenon know as upwelling.
