Knowledge is power and the greatest asset you can acquire in order to compete for a fantasy football championship.
Here’s your 2023 preview of the Detroit Lions, the 30th of 32 team profiles during draft season:
2023 Fantasy MVP: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR
The final six weeks of 2021, St. Brown (ADP: 20) was the overall WR2 in PPR formats — second only to Cooper Kupp during his record-breaking season. He finished as the overall WR7 in PPR in 2022. St. Brown has made at least six receptions in 18 of his last 22 games and he could finish as the top receiver in PPR if he sees some positive touchdown regression.
2023 Fantasy Sleeper: Jared Goff, QB
Goff (ADP: 131) finished as the overall QB10 in fantasy last season. The Lions added even more weapons to the fifth-highest scoring offense in the NFL courtesy of the draft and will eventually get last year’s first-rounder Jameson Williams and his electric speed back. Goff also plays behind one of the NFL’s best offensive lines and he’s getting drafted as a QB17 in most fantasy drafts.
2023 Fantasy Bust: Sam LaPorta, TE
The Hawkeyes continue to churn out great tight end prospects who are well-versed in all aspects of the game — George Kittle, TJ Hockenson and Noah Fant are all doing well in the NFL. LaPorta (ADP: 147) was a team captain last season and his measurables are almost identical to Kittle, but his ball skills and elusiveness falls a little short. I value him more in dynasty formats than redraft this year because rookie tight ends rarely contribute on a consistent basis and he’s likely to be fourth or fifth in target share on a stacked offense.
2023 Fantasy Rookie to watch: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB
There’s dual-threat potential in Gibbs (ADP: 30), with shades of Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Charles in his game. He features electric speed with -catching ability and has mastered an advanced route tree. In three years between Georgia Tech and Alabama, he had 104 receptions for 1,217 yards and eight TDs out of the backfield. Gibbs also doesn’t feature D’Andre Swift’s durability concerns, which means David Montgomery (ADP: 77) shouldn’t see the field as much as Jamaal Williams did in 2022.
