They may not appreciate this praise, but here goes: It was refreshing to see the 149-unit Piraeus Point townhouse project win a key approval this week. It will fill an obvious need.
— The recent report that over the past year, San Diego State University obtained a record $192.2 million for research — a huge increase over past sums — is one more confirmation that NASA, the Pentagon, the National Institutes of Health and other powerful institutions see SDSU as a key partner on ambitious endeavors. The university’s national reputation just keeps growing.
— “Blue Beetle” is the first Latino-led superhero movie from the DC Universe, and it opened recently at No. 1 at the U.S. box office, knocking megahit “Barbie” out of the top spot. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, it stars an almost entirely Latino cast. This is a win-win. It’s a great family film. It’s funny. And it’s a case of Hollywood finally portraying Latinos in positive light. Go see it!
— The story about the city of San Diego issuing hundreds of $60 citations to those who parked on paved areas near Otay Mesa’s Cross Border Xpress pedestrian bridge that didn’t have “no parking” signs or other warnings is bad enough. But that officials won’t rescind the citations is an awful look: “We screw up, you pay” isn’t much of a city motto.
