UPDATED:
Some of the most extreme tidal swings, known as king tides, will happen this weekend in San Diego. The peak of the tide shifts will happen Saturday and Sunday, when high tides in the mornings will be over seven feet, and the low tides in the afternoon will be near negative two feet. King tides occur when the Earth, sun and moon’s obits combine to produce the biggest tidal effect of the year.
There could be coastal flooding in low-lying areas. The afternoon low tides will expose rock formations and create tide pools great for exploring in such areas as Sunset Cliffs and La Jolla.
