The Poway Symphony Orchestra has announced the concert program for its 19th performance season 2022-23.

Music Director and Conductor John LoPiccolo has assembled a variety of music that is bound to please all concert goers and attract new patrons, organizers said. LoPiccolo will lead the orchestra in all performances.

The Poway Symphony Orchestra is a 65-member semi-professional orchestra, celebrating its 19th year of presenting classical music concerts.

The concerts will take place in the state-of-the-art Poway Center for the Performing Arts at 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Nov. 20: “Misha Dichter comes to town.” The Poway Symphony Orchestra presents Dichter, celebrated piano soloist of world renown. Dichter has performed and recorded with some of the most illustrious conductors of the 20th and 21st centuries and appeared as soloist with some of the major orchestras in Europe and the USA. He will perform here two concertos: Beethoven’s “Emperor Concerto” and Gershwin’s “Concerto in F.”

“This is a seldom occurring event in the classical music world, and to have Mr. Dichter our orchestra for these two concertos is an exceptional honor,LoPiccolo said. To open the concert the orchestra will play the bright and sparkling “Festive Overture” by Shostakovich.

March 19, 2023: “An American Extravaganza” with the Chestnut Brass Company performing fun and lighthearted pieces for brass and full orchestra. The concert will provide a rare combination of a five-member brass ensemble and a symphonic orchestra. To complete the all-American music experience, the orchestra will also perform “Appalachian Spring” by Aaron Copland and “American Salute” by Morton Gould.

May 28, 2023: “Musical Contrasts” includes two playful pieces for flute and orchestra featuring the principal flutist Katie Kim as soloist: the Sonata for flute and orchestra by Francis Poulenc and the Concertino for flute and Orchestra by Cécile Chaminade. In addition, the orchestra will perform the overture to “Cosi fan Tutti” by Mozart and the Symphony No.2 by Brahms.

Tickets will go on sale approximately six weeks before the concert dates.
