UPDATED:

The traditional Sunday finish for the Farmers Insurance Open will be missing in January.

Blame — or credit — the NFL.

With the pro football season extending an extra week into February, the conference championship games are now scheduled for Jan. 30 — the same Sunday the Farmers was set to end.

To avoid a conflict, the PGA Tour and Farmers Insurance announced Tuesday that the tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Course will move up a day and begin Wednesday, Jan. 26, and finish Saturday, Jan. 29.

Golf Channel will carry the first two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as lead-in coverage on the final two days. CBS Sports will begin its golf season with coverage of the final two rounds on Friday and Saturday, with finish times at about 5 p.m.

Sunset in La Jolla that weekend occurs at about 5:20.

“We are excited about the opportunity that these changes present and fully embrace the uniqueness that comes with being the only tournament on the PGA Tour schedule with a Saturday-evening finish,” Marty Gorsich, CEO of the Century Club of San Diego, which runs the Farmers, said in a statement. “The change in dates will allow us to get creative in the experiences that we offer for fans, hospitality clients and sponsors while simultaneously shining an even brighter spotlight on San Diego to those tuning in around the world.”

Patrick Reed won the 2021 Farmers by five shots with a 14-under total of 274 for four rounds.
