EL CAJON — A mural of Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove is being painted at Grossmont High School in honor of the no-hitter he pitched Friday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Commissioned by the Padres at his alma mater, the mural is based off a photo that features Musgrove in a triumphant yell as he pumps his right fist and curls the glove in his left hand. Several details, such as the gold chain around his neck and the No. 44 on the wrist of his uniform, bring the mural to life. A quote in gold lettering, outlined in brown, reads: ” … Meant to be,” a phrase said by Musgrove and many others after the no-hitter was over, alluding to a local boy being the first to bring a no-hitter to the organization.

The mural is near the school istration building and is being done by artists Paul Jimenez and Signe Ditona of Ground Floor Murals, the same couple who painted the Tony Gwynn mural in City Heights, as well as assistants. The Padres plan to release more information on the mural later this week.
