If Tiger Woods is to compete in a golf tournament this year in Southern California, it will have to be the U.S. Open.

Woods announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter he would not be able to play in next week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines or The Genesis Invitational next month at Riviera due to recent back surgery.

The U.S. Open is scheduled for June 17-20 at Torrey Pines. Woods won the event the last time it was played there, in 2008. He has won the PGA Tour stop at Torrey Pines seven times, in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013.
