San Diego Mesa College quarterback Thomas Fishburne ran for one touchdown and threw for another in the fourth quarter as the Olympians rallied to beat visiting Palomar 41-31 on Saturday.
The teams combined for 1,027 yards in total offense, with Mesa (7-3) rolling to 533, while Palomar (2-8) had 494.
Fishburne, a Steele Canyon High alum, threw for 291 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and he was second on the team in rushing with 55 yards while scoring twice. Asante Hartzog started at QB for Mesa and scored the game’s first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.
Palomar quarterback Rodney Thompson (36 of 56) threw for four touchdowns and 486 yards.
Two receivers made eight catches each — Kyran Griffin for 116 yards and Logan Gamble for 95. Ten different Comets had at least one reception.
Southwestern 41, Orange Coast 0: Cary Enos, a fresh starter at quarterback for the Jaguars (6-4), threw three touchdown es and the defense notched an interception return for a score in Southwestern’s first shutout win of the season.
Southwestern’s Atoatasi Fox returned an interception 65 yards for the first TD of the game and the Jaguars limited Orange Coast (1-9) to 167 yards in total offense.
Enos was 9 of 15 for 156 yards, and Davion Johnson made four catches for 123 yards and one TD. Southwestern running back Deandre Daniels carried 15 times for 124 yards and one TD, and Omari Green (3-42) had a 36-yard run for a score.
Golden West 33, Grossmont 7: Grossmont managed only a touchdown with 21 seconds remaining in the game to finish the season at 1-9.
Golden West (5-5) had seven sacks while holding the Griffins to 10 first downs and only 104 yards in total offense.
