Longtime San Diego sports-talk show personality Darren Smith has been hired by XTRA 1360 Fox Sports San Diego and will host a weekday show from noon to 3 p.m. beginning Tuesday. His longtime producer, Marty Caswell, also was hired by the station.

Smith and Caswell were just about to begin a show at The Mighty 1090 on April 10 when the station was taken off the air by the company that owned the transmitter in Mexico. They worked almost three more weeks doing a show that was streamed on the Internet before 1090’s parent company shut down the station April 30.

Nick Hardwick, who has been hosting the noon to 3 p.m. show at 1360-AM with Jon Schaeffer, said Monday he will cut back on his schedule and do one hour of football analysis twice a week on the station’s morning show with Mike Costa and Judson Richards. Schaeffer will be part of the 3-6 p.m. show with Steve Hartman and Rich Ohrnberger.

Another former 1090 show, hosted by Ben Higgins and Steven Woods, wound up on the city’s other sports-talk station, 97.3-FM, starting in late May.
