UPDATED:

It was always a long shot, but it seems we can now forget all the speculation about whether the Raiders might play the 2019 NFL season in San Diego.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about San Diego at his annual Super Bowl news conference on Wednesday and while he didn’t address the topic specifically in his answer to the original question or a follow-up, he didn’t offer any reason for hope, either.

“I think the hope of (owner) Mark (Davis) is to continue to be in the Bay Area with his Raider fans,” Goodell said.

The Raiders will be moving to Las Vegas before the 2020 season, but they have not finalized a home for 2019. Litigation between the team and the city of Oakland has complicated the situation.

Goodell offered no specifics as to where the team might play. Among the options the team has explored in addition to Oakland are Oracle Park in San Francisco, where the baseball Giants play, and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, home of the 49ers.
