
A memorial service for longtime San Diego Union-Tribune sportswriter Jerry Magee will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Breitbard Hall of Fame at Petco Park.
Magee worked at The San Diego Union and U-T for 52 years before retiring in 2008. He was 90 when he died Jan. 2 following a long illness.
Guests are asked to enter through the Gaslamp Gate at Petco Park, located at the corner of 7th Avenue and K Street. The gate will open at 10:30 a.m.
Free parking will be available in the Lexus Lot off Imperial Avenue on the southeast side of Petco Park. Paid parking is available in the Parkade garage across from the Gaslamp Gate at 6th and K.
Magee was the beat writer on the Chargers from the day they moved from Los Angeles to San Diego in 1961 until 1986, and continued writing about them for another two decades. He covered all the major events in San Diego and many others around the country, including 42 straight Super Bowls.
