The Chargers will open the 2018 season against a team they haven’t defeated since 2013.
Beginning their second season in Los Angeles after spending 56 seasons in San Diego, the 2018 Chargers will play their first game Sept. 9 at StubHub Center against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chargers have lost eight straight games to the Chiefs, who won the AFC West last season by a game over the Chargers but will be starting a new quarterback. With Alex Smith traded to Washington, Patrick Mahomes takes over for the Chiefs and will be making just his second career start in the opener.
The teams will play again Dec. 13 in Kansas City on “Thursday Night Football.” That’s the only time the Chargers are scheduled to play in prime time.
For the second time in three seasons the Chargers will not play a game on “Monday Night Football.” Before it happened in 2016, the Chargers had appeared in at least one Monday night game for 11 straight seasons.
The Chargers also are not scheduled for any Sunday night games this season.
