The California Horse Racing Board on Friday released the names of 43 of the 46 horses who “have been either positively identified or reported as missing and presumed to be among those” that died Dec. 7 at San Luis Rey Downs in the Lilac Fire.
Three others were listed as “unknown.”
Trainer Scott Hansen’s barn was hit the hardest, with 15 thoroughbreds and one pony listed among the dead. Three trainers — Joe Herrick, Peter Miller and Clifford Sise — lost five horses each. Herrick also suffered burns over 23 percent of his body.
