The eighth annual La Jolla Art and Wine Festival returns to the quaint Village of La Jolla on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9. The free two-day festival also features live entertainment, Baja wines, local craft beers, the Geppetto’s Family Art Center for budding artists and performance artists. Over half a mile of Girard Ave. in La Jolla celebrates art of all kinds, all while raising funds for local schools.
Over 150 artists have been hand-picked to showcase the incredible talent of the community in a variety of mediums and styles, including painting, sculpture, jewelry design, fine glass, ceramics, woodwork, mixed media and photography.
Take your taste buds on a Baja-inspired tour, with over 40 wineries offering samples in the Wine & Beer Garden. Beer drinkers can find a new local favorite in the Garden while enjoying shaded seating, “beer talks” from local brewers and live entertainment throughout the day.
Guests can always count on show-stopping performances at the festival, but this year, they’re taking things to new heights-literally. Don’t miss the Parade of Stilt Walkers, where creative, costumed performers from Zepto Space Sacred Cirque will stroll through the half-mile festival grounds.
The festival will kick things off in dramatic fashion on Saturday with a flash mob marching band performance by La Jolla High School. After their set, Vibhas Kendzi, Brad Perry, Jazz Pigs, Jimmy & Enrique and Mark & Armando will perform on the Beer & Wine Garden Stage. Susie & Oh La La, Michael Tiernan, The Haskell Collins Band and the Strength Funk Band will provide the soundtrack for the festival on Sunday.
The Geppetto’s Family Art Center is better than ever with art-centric adventures for all ages. Young artists will be able to create all types of masterpieces, complete science activities and show off their hula hoop skills. And the festival wouldn’t be complete without the opportunity to paint a car. This year, attendees will get to leave their creative mark on a 24-foot limo provided by La Jolla Social and La Jolla Golf Carts.
As far as food goes, you’re covered with several local options at the Gourmet Food Court. Try some delicious fare from Poke Go La Jolla, Isola Pizza Bar, Cousins Maine Lobster and The Gumbo Pot.
Of course, let’s keep in mind the best part of the whole event. La Jolla Wine & Art Festival is a non-profit organization that s elementary and middle schools in the San Diego area by raising money for underfunded programs, including art, music, science, physical education, technology and on-site medical care. Last year, the silent raised over $26,000 for beneficiary schools.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m on Girard Ave. in between Prospect St. and Torrey Pines Rd.
