Philip Rivers talks about his foundation, Rivers of Hope, with the same ion he exudes on the football field.
The father of six is intent — along with his wife, Tiffany — on finding “forever families” for foster children.
To that end, Rivers is doing something Saturday morning that he only does on the football field in extreme situations.
Rivers is running.
The third annual Philip Rivers 5K Celebrity Walk and Fun Run is June 16 at Liberty Station in Point Loma. Paid entry includes a haircut voucher from Sport Clips, a commemorative Philip Rivers t-shirt and the opportunity to run the 3.1 mile race alongside the quarterback for the San Diego Chargers.
“It’s a family event, a community event,” Rivers said earlier this week. “It’s wide open for everyone. It’s a nice way to enjoy the morning — and it has a purpose.”
That purpose is to raise money for the Rivers of Hope Foundation, which helps children without families find permanent homes.
“Anything you can say or do gives these kids hope,” Rivers said. “Our top goal is to find that forever family for these children.”
The 5K event will also include live music, complimentary food samples, a kids zone and an autograph booth featuring current and former Chargers.
