Former Charger running back LaDainian Tomlinson was in town recently to speak at Junior Seau’s “Celebration of Life” and afterward talked ionately about his football camp.

“I really believe these camps are going to do amazing things for young athletes,” Tomlinson said. “For their skills, academics, everything.”

The “LaDainian Tomlinson Preparatory Academy” runs July 12-15 in San Marcos. It’s designed to provide education and training for athletes both on and off the field, as well as showing youngsters how important education is to their success. Participation will include on-field skills and drills, football clinics, information on scholarships and recruiting, as well as tips and advice for parents of student athletes.

“Kids will learn something more than football,” said Shannon Brazzell, vice president of business development for the Academy. “We’re teaching them the athletic side and the academic side. We have classes for parents that include information on the NCAA. Most parents don’t know what to do once their child starts getting recognized athletically.”

The camp costs $399 and is open to children and teenagers in sixth-11th grade. For information, visit: LT-academy.com.
